In the Bluefield approach, inventory levels can be migrated in two ways:
- by migrating the history of goods movements and information about inventory levels from aggregation tables, and then converting the data to new MATDOC and MATDOC_EXTRACT tables,
- by entering the initial inventory level using moves 561, 563 and 565.
Entering the inventory level using moves 561, 563 and 565 is a classic approach also used in Greenfield projects, but it should be emphasized that this method is very time-consuming. A prerequisite for this approach is the extraction of information about inventory levels from the SAP ECC system and the preparation of batch files, which will then be used as a data source in the tool used to enter the initial inventory level (LSMW, S/4HANA Migration Cockpit). These steps should be performed at each test migration in the project and during go-live.
CrystalBridge transformation tools by SNP used by All for One Poland in SAP transformation projects allow this approach to be automated, eliminating the need to prepare batch files altogether. In addition, we gain the ability to apply the same transformation rules used to migrate the remaining master and transactional data.
Posting Engine, a tool that is part of the Transformation module on the CrystalBridge platform, also allows for:
- derecognizing an inventory level in the source system,
- entering the initial inventory level at the same time in the WM/EWM system.
In a project to migrate to SAP S/4HANA for a client from the Oil & Gas industry, additional goods movements 110 and 412Q were required in addition to the receipt of inventory levels with movements 561, 563 and 565. In addition, all material master data was not to be migrated with CrystalBridge transformation tools, but replicated from the SAP Master Data Governance system, and material valuation before goods movements in company code, group and local currencies was to be migrated from the Material Ledger of the source system.
Thanks to the experience of our migration consultants and the flexibility of the transformation tools we use at All for One Poland, such complex scenarios can be implemented and prepared so that the entire migration can be completed in a single weekend.
