BCC deployed new service, targeting at remote development of SAP Business Intelligence. We asked Krzysztof Siwiec, BI expert and manager responsible for the new service, about the benefits that BI Development Center offers to its clients.
How come the idea of BI DC? Don’t clients want anymore traditional consulting services concerning SAP Business Intelligence?
It is not like that. The need for expert consulting will never cease. When considering new SAP BI implementations or vast extensions the presence of BI consultant who together with client’s employees creates a blueprint is indispensable.
Our clients requirements has yet changed. Large companies, which a few years ago took their first steps in BI with several Business Warehouse BW reports, nowadays have huge Business Intelligence implementations. Often in such environments number of reports exceeds several hundreds, many data sources of various types are implemented and there are several hundreds of BI users. These companies have also plenty of small BI development needs like new reports creation, addition of new data sources to existing data, changes in authorization definitions or creation of web applications in tools like SAP Visual Composer or Java Dynpro. Lack of employees time or competences stipulate demand on outsourcing such tasks.
Why do not use standard BCC BI consultants?
Client can always ask for help expert consultants but often this would be not the optimal solution. Task to be done during small BI development are usually quite simple, often repetitive and often do not imply work on client site. With such needs what becomes important is fast reaction and quick task accomplishment at comparatively low costs. BI Development Center addresses such client requirements and is targeted at companies with complex SAP BI systems with many users. These companies will benefit most from our services.
How does service realization looks like?
At first, together with our client, we estimate client needs in BI field. We set up prices. If development task are repetitive, we can sign up agreement for long period, yet this is not always the case. What is really needed is to be able to remotely connect to our client BI system. New jobs can be just simple client orders or orders with thorough task specification. If needed our expert can visit client site ie. to prepare blueprint just like with traditional consulting services. When work is calculated and price agreed we take quickly to work. Using remote connection our BI specialist performs ordered work. After it is verified internally at BCC and accepted by client solution can be transported to live system. Client is charged for work done in agreed period usually month.
What is the relation among BI Development Center and other BCC BI services?
I underline once more – BI DC is not a service instead but complementary to traditional consulting. It is neither a BI helpdesk service as we concentrate on BI Development. All BCC services fulfill different SAP client needs.
