In August, BCC carried out a project of SAP Solution Manager (SSM) installation and configuration for a leading manufacturer from the automotive industry at the customer's premises. The SSM solution is used in SAP installations as a platform supporting management and administration of systems.
The customer had a hosted SAP Solution Manager system, but due to the continuous development of SAP competence of their own team of employees and plans of the SSM functionality development, the customer decided to transfer the solution to their data center.
The SSM solution was based on proven components:
- SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SPS14 (NW 7.02)
- the database: SYBASE 15.7 (x64)
The implementation included the following configuration:
- updating and installation of the SAP Agent Diagnostics and SAP Host Agent on the customer’s SAP servers
- Managed System Configuration — connecting external systems to SAP Solution Manager
- EWA (Early Watch Alert) — configuration of reports on the status of systems
- Maintenance Planner (a successor to Maintenance Optimizer) — configuration and validation of the operation of the tool hosted by SAP to replace the MOPZ tool used so far
- Technical Monitoring — technical monitoring of satellite systems connected to SAP Solution Manager using standard SAP guidelines (based on the so-called technical template)
- System Monitoring (IT Task Management) — configuration of sample, repetitive tasks of an administrator
- CA Wily Introscope Enterprise — monitoring of external SAP systems (connected to SSM) based on the Java technology (J2EE)
In the above configuration, the following systems of the customer are monitored:
- ERP 6.0 EHP7 (NW 7.4), the database: SAP HANA 1.00.102.05 (a three-system landscape, a cluster environment, dedicated HDB servers)
- PI NW 7.4, the database: SYBASE 16.0 (a three-system landscape)
At the end of the implementation, BCC consultants conducted workshops at the customer's premises in the field of the completed installation, configuration and administration of the SAP Solution Manager system. As a result of the Basis work, the customer obtained a stable and proven tool for monitoring SAP systems, increased their security, facilitated the administration, and is better prepared for their future update processes.
